Shani Pradosh Vrat Katha.
According to the legend, in ancient times, a very pious Brahmin lived in a town. He was an exclusive devotee of Lord Shiva and used to observe every Pradosh fast according to the rituals. His wife was also very well-mannered and religious minded. However, one sorrow was that they had no children. Both of them were always worried with the desire to have children.
One day, both the Brahmin and his wife decided to do severe penance. They went to the forest and got absorbed in the worship of Lord Shiva. Pleased with their penance, Lord Shiva appeared to them and asked them to ask for a boon. The Brahmin and his wife asked for the boon of having a son. Lord Shiva blessed them and told them to follow the Shani Pradosh Vrat methodically.
Following the blessings of Lord Shiva and the Shani Pradosh Vrat prescribed by him, the Brahmin and his wife faithfully kept the fast and worshipped Lord Shiva and Shanidev. After some time, with the grace of Lord Shiva and the blessings of Shanidev, they were blessed with a beautiful and healthy son.
There is also another popular version of this story, in which it is told that in ancient times, a widow Brahmini used to go to beg alms with her son. She used to rest in a Shiva temple while returning. One day she found a prince of Vidarbha country there, who was expelled from the kingdom by the enemies. The Brahmini started treating the prince like her son.
After some time, that Brahmini kept the Shani Pradosh Vrat and worshipped Lord Shiva. Due to the effect of the fast, the prince received secret wealth from somewhere. With that money, the prince prepared a huge army and conquered his enemies and regained his kingdom. The prince kept the Brahmini and her son respectfully in his palace. The Brahmini’s son occupied a high position in the court of that prince.
The essence of this story is that by following the Shani Pradosh fast methodically, both Lord Shiva and Shanidev are pleased and fulfill all the wishes of their devotees, whether it is getting a son, freedom from disease, or getting rid of any kind of difficulty in life.
